How We Built a Multilingual Healthcare Appointment Booking Platform for an Australian Medical Provider
- Our client — Forward Medical Pty Ltd, based in Australia — came to us with a clear but pressing problem: their clinics were still managing patient appointments entirely by phone call and paper register.
- No digital records, no self-service booking, no way to scale. We built them a complete appointment management ecosystem from the ground up: a React web platform, iOS and Android patient apps, and a full admin panel for clinic management — all with built-in support for English and Chinese to serve Australia’s diverse patient community.

The Challenge
Forward Medical was running a growing network of clinics with zero digital infrastructure for patient bookings. Every appointment was confirmed over the phone or logged in a paper register — a process that was slow, error-prone and impossible to scale. Patients had no way to check availability or book outside of clinic hours, and staff were spending significant time each day managing scheduling manually instead of focusing on patient care.
Adding another layer of complexity: the client was actively serving both English-speaking and Chinese-speaking patients across Australia. Existing off-the-shelf booking tools offered no multilingual support, meaning a large portion of their patient base was underserved and often reliant on assistance to navigate the booking process.

- We designed and engineered the complete NextAppointment platform from scratch — a React-powered web application for patients, native mobile apps for iOS and Android built in Flutter, and a comprehensive admin panel for clinic operators, all backed by a Node.js API.

Every part of the NextAppointment ecosystem shares the same backend. When a clinic administrator updates their available hours in the admin panel, that availability reflects instantly for patients browsing on web or mobile. Bookings made by patients are immediately visible to the clinic team — no manual synchronisation, no double-bookings, no phone calls required.

A clean, responsive web booking experience where patients can search for healthcare providers, browse availability across doctors, dentists, specialists and therapists, and book appointments in minutes — in either English or Chinese.
iOS & Android Apps (Flutter)
Cross-platform mobile apps giving patients the ability to book, reschedule and manage upcoming appointments directly from their phone, with push notifications and appointment reminders built in.
Clinic Admin Panel
A dedicated management interface for clinic administrators to configure provider profiles, set operational hours, manage appointment slots, and get full visibility across all bookings — without any technical expertise required.
Multilingual Support(Eng & Chinese)
Full UI localisation across all surfaces — web, iOS and Android — allowing the clinic to serve Australia’s Chinese-speaking patient community in their preferred language from day one.
Provider & Specialty Directory
A structured directory of healthcare providers across multiple specialties — general practice, dental, specialist medicine and allied health — allowing patients to find the right provider quickly and book directly.
Real-Time Availability Engine
Appointment slots update in real time across all surfaces as bookings are made, ensuring patients always see accurate availability and staff never have to manage double-bookings manually.
Appointment Lifecycle Management
Patients can view upcoming appointments, reschedule when needed, and receive confirmation and reminder notifications — reducing no-shows and the admin overhead associated with chasing confirmations by phone.
Cloud-Hosted Node.js Backend
The entire platform runs on cloud servers, giving the client the reliability and scalability to handle order spikes, add new restaurants, and grow without infrastructure bottlenecks.
The Results
Next Appointment replaced a manual, phone-and-paper process with a fully digital, self-service booking experience — giving patients 24/7 access to appointments and giving clinic staff back the time they were spending on scheduling.
